Let's talk about Christmas

A post shared by Marcia Francois (@marcia0608) on

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
I'm not really into movies but by co-incidence, one of my favourite movies, The Holiday, is actually set at Christmas.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Christmas morning after church. I believe in first things first, and our kids have never known any different so they don't feel like they're missing out.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
These days my favourite memories are of us decorating - the tree and house - while I play a couple of Christmas CDs. It is the best.

4. Favourite festive food?
My mother's roast potatoes, Christmas mince pies with custard, and so on :)

5. Favourite Christmas gift?
I like to keep my expectations very low.... but I'll admit that they're usually the To Marcia, from Marcia gifts :)

But actually, I do remember one Christmas I received two Christmas mugs and a packet of Woolworths shortbread biscuits from a friend. Obviously the biscuits were eaten very quickly but every year I use those mugs for about 6 - 7 weeks and I'm so happy when I use them. And every year, I take a pic of my mug and a mince pie, and send it to this friend :)

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
Food?

Favourite Christmas CDs?
I added this question in as I can't believe there's nothing about music.
The Plain Truth's Christmas CDs - all of them - there are 3. I've gifted them to friends and I don't know if they were a hit, but I LOVE their version of O Holy Night. I also sent just the single to a few people, never heard back, so not sure if they couldn't redeem it or just didn't like it and didn't know what to say, or what. Oh well. It truly was the thought :)

I also like Mariah Carey's one (get it!), Michael Buble's one and Rod Stewart's Christmas CDs.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Does cooking count? I always seem to be either cooking or cleaning.

8. What tops your tree?
An African angel that my friend, Roz, bought for me. She bought one for a lot of us that year, and I love using mine each year.

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
We never had expectations around gifts so I can't remember anything.
But as an adult I always ask for experience or consumable gifts and I never get any.

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?
Jesus. Seriously. It's not Christmas for me until I've been to church and sung O Holy Night.

Idea for this post from Laura and from this blog

Tell me about your Christmas - just the first thing that comes to mind :)

  2. I LOVE LOVE LOVE everything Christmas. We watch stacks of Christmas movies, and I read Christmasy books for the entire of December. I love shopping for gifts as well as wrapping them in co-ordinating gift wrap while listening to carols. We put up the tree and started decorating yesterday. We open gifts on Christmas morning while eating mince pies and tea. And then we have a big Christmas lunch. Most years we are on holiday at the beach for Christmas so we have the extended family in Durban visiting us and it really is a fun time with cousins, aunts and uncles.

  3. Christmas for me, is about family. My favourite Christmas thing is occasionally waking up to rain on Christmas morning.

I've gone a bit off the gift thing after the last two years with Steve and the excess shopping bs. And I have not done any shopping whatsoever yet this year. I'm actually dreading it to be honest...and I usually love it!

  4. I love love love The Holiday and I watch it on repeat all year long! And a close second is Love Actually... just makes me laugh!!!

Sounds sad but we don’t do special Christmas presents. I’ve said it before I didn’t grow up with big present exchanges at Christmas. It was always about the new dress and shoes for church, church and ice cream afterwards and the special meals and time with family. With K we got her to open presents after lunch but she wasn’t impressed because we should be sending the gifts to Jesus as it was his birthday not hers :) enough said ! She did ask for a doll for Christmas this year which I got her so maybe this year she’ll be more excited ... we sound like the house of grinch :) She does get excited for Santa but just got pictures not gifts I think my child is too smart to think Santa is the one bringing her gifts she knows it is mommy and Daddy and even wants to know exactly where we bought it from :)

But the one thing for me is the Christmas tree and lights (that was a big part of Christmas growing up) decking up the house with the tree and cards and lights and praying there would be electricity long enough to enjoy it! And now I leave our tree out all year round sans the decoration

Christmas music as cheesy as it sounds Boney M! I think it reminds me of being a child and walking through the market and hearing it play on repeat! And I do like Mariah Carey’s CD and I added a few new ones this year! And the Plain truth thanks to you! I play it on repeat in the train at least once every other week Christmas or not!
