Can we talk about this weird weather?

I really don't know what to make of this weather anymore.

It's April - jeans and long-sleeved t-shirt, with sometimes a sweatshirt weather, and yet.... I'm still wearing sleeveless t-shirts, skirts (!), dresses and flip flops.

It's supposed to be autumn! On the bright side, I haven't had a heat headache for weeks so it must be about a degree or two cooler.

This is what autumn looked like in years past: jeans and closed shoes.

It feels very strange because if you look around, Mother Nature got the memo for some bits. Like the leaves are turning and falling to the ground, but temperature-wise, nothing's happening.

And as much as some of you don't like winter, we do need a proper cold winter to kill the germs otherwise it's months of sniffles instead of a week!

I keep wanting to do my 15-second pullovers on my way to work, where I get out of the car and take pics of my feet in the leaves but how can you take pics of sandals in leaves?!

I took this one just to record the craziness of the season.

Look at all the leaves and do you know what the temperature was on this day at about 4:30 - 5:00 in the afternoon? 29.5 degrees C, i.e. summer weather.

By the way, I bought another brand of deodorant and I think maybe my body just needed a break from the Mitchum, because I switched to Shower to Shower, and I'm good again. I think I'll have to do this switching business back and forth, so each speedstick stays effective.

My sister came to visit us a million years ago (14 years ago) in June, and she still remembers that as the coldest she'd ever been. She is not a fan of the Joburg winter whereas I still say it's the best climate ever!

So how are you enjoying the weather?

PPS thanks for all the comments on the Jozi meetup post!

The last bits of autumn

This has been a very mild autumn indeed.

I'm not complaining because I like that we haven't had to use heaters yet or switch to winter bedding.

(we're doing that this week though)

Being me though, the electric blanket has been on for a good month or two already :)

And of course, I've been drinking lots of tea.

The temperature at work differs by maybe a degree or two so I'm still dressing exactly the same :)

Anyway, we're load-shedding in 9 minutes time so I want to go fry some eggs for supper.

Tomorrow after church we have a friend date that I can't WAIT for! Seriously!

What are you looking forward to doing tomorrow?

her shoes are much cuter than mine :)

a gust of wind blew all the leaves off the tree

lovely, moody skies!
PS I bought two new lipsticks today!

Is there anything more beautiful than autumn?

Fair warning to my lovely readers - I am OBSESSED with the colours of autumn:

...all shades of leaves - red, yellow, brown, dirty brown, all of it!

...golden hour is MAGNIFICENT.

One evening this week I took K shopping with me "take me HOME, I'm TIRED" - don't worry, that won't be happening again anytime soon. We left our house at about 4:20 during golden hour and the light was just beautiful.

If I didn't want my fruits and veggies that badly, I would have abandoned the shop. BTW, I'm not impressed with PnP online shopping. My bill should have been R720; it was R496. All the missing stuff was my fresh produce, some yoghurts and bread. The essentials around here.

Connor was in a strop (Sam, I'm taking your word!) because we took too long (!) so the next afternoon I took him with me to Eastgate to exchange some stuff. We drove home during sunset and MAN, our sunsets are amazing. He was all "MUMMY, take a picture quickly." "I can't, Boy, I'm driving" but yes, so beautiful you can't stop gasping.

... seriously, we have the BEST sunsets! All that smog is good for something.

(I hesitate only slightly to admit this but I now have a sunsets folder for photos - 20 photos just from Jan - April and MAY is when we get the best sunsets... trust me, I remember previous years' photos very fondly)

Connor and I have promised ourselves a golden hour photowalk sometime this weekend.

What do you most enjoy about autumn?

Our first autumn photo walk

I'd be happy if it were autumn forever :)

I love the leaves, jeans and a t-shirt, with a sweatshirt, and TEA!!!!

Mind you, in these photos I'm still wearing shorts and flip-flops... and it was a mere month ago. The first decent weekend after all the rain.

The quest for leaf photos

So you all know I get a little bit...obsessed sometimes.

Well now, this photography thing just lends itself to obsessions, right?

One of the lessons in Elevate the Ordinary was on embracing your obsessions (she may have used other verbiage) which is all the excuse I need.

I am MAD about leaves. Absolutely crazy about them. Don't even get me started on wet leaves (I literally stop the car and take pics... if safe).

So it seemed the leaves were all kinds of beautiful this autumn. What a God we serve!

There's a particular tree I travel past each and every day on a very busy road. Last year I fully intended to drag D with me so I could take pics but I missed out. One weekend the tree still had leaves, there was some mighty wind and the next weekend that tree was bare. I hate that.

So this year I've been nagging and when D said, "what do you want to do for our date on Saturday?", I said, "well first I want to go past that tree and take pics, and then you can take over the rest of the date".

WIN-WIN!

Tell me it wasn't worth a special trip! When we got there, we realised there were TWO fabulous trees next to each other. Oh how I love it!!!!

my favourite!

It was WELL worth the drive and looking "foolish" to get my lovely leaf pics. The only thing that would have been better was if the leaves were wet :)

I have really done an awesome job of making time for photos and photowalks this year.

Next thing on my photo list - take lots of winter pics - moody, dramatic pics that I can make into black and white pics. MMMMMM.

Which is your favourite pic?

I'd love to see all your autumn pics if you feel like taking me up on the challenge.
