A little family shoot at the rusty old car :)

Self-timer is our friend!

I warned everybody that we'd be returning on the way back to Jhb and that's exactly what we did.

The kids were not feeling it but hello? A rusty old car was calling my name!

Do you intentionally stop to take photos at things that make your heart beat faster? :)

The rusty old car... and being persuaded

One thing I really like about Connor is he will not be swayed.

I often say it's hard to parent such a child now but he is going to be even more awesome as a teenager.

We took the kids to this ziplining/ bungee rope place while we were on holiday. It was really cheap (R70 for the bungee thing plus entrance to the kids' ziplining area) but Connor said, "No, thanks. I don't want to do it" and that was that.

You can frustrate yourself trying to persuade him but it's best to just accept it and move on.

(I'm the same)

Kendra loves all this fearless stuff so she participated.

Afterwards, I came across this rusty old car and it was love at first sight.

Tell me, is it not gorgeous?!

this is me checking exactly how safe these ropes are with my precious child :)

my precious child had not a care in the world

oh gosh, I love this colour!

How I make myself be not-so-lazy with photography

Whenever I take all the lenses on holiday with me, I make sure I do at least one photowalk with each one to justify bringing it all the way. On the bright side, here are some photos for your viewing pleasure - a lot of these were taken with the zoom lens.

My favourites are the too with the bee :)

This capsuling thing

I veer to and fro on my capsuling thoughts.

Work clothes sometimes feel too boring - I probably do need one or two extra tops - but for my casual clothes, I kind of love it.

(I can't wait for winter to weed through those work things and get a new grey suit - hopefully I'll be close to my goal weight)

Now here's the thing - it's not like I don't like the other stuff in my wardrobe (because when I do, out they go), but I think I'm just drawn to certain colours at certain times.

This summer, I've been loving the grey/ blue/ yellow theme, and also the orange-coral/ blue theme. And lots of grey!

It's also easier packing when you have a capsule.

I read a post somewhere where the lady said she chooses ALL the same colours with one strong accessory (in her example, it was navy and white, with RED) so all the holiday photos look coherent.

That's a bit hectic for me, but it is nice when you know everything goes with everything.

Matching nail polish with Kendra makes her super happy (she is very easily delighted) so we matched on holiday

On this particular day, when I dressed and went downstairs, TWO kids told me I looked nice. And the boy was first.

I'll take it!

What colours are you drawn towards this summer/ winter?

Do you pack in a capsule on holidays?

You could almost believe we're in Ireland

One of the days on holiday it was cold and rainy. Normally I love this kind of weather but this time, we weren't prepared so I wasn't that thrilled with the weather.Because it was super cold.

I had delusions of going for runs (!) - me! - so I took gym pants and a grey sweatshirt with us, which was what I wore.

The kids had leggings.

Fortunately, that was the only day it was that cold the whole day. It rained on another two days, but more the thundershowers we're used to in Joburg.

So of course we took a drive and

Irish weather

three little birds

how gorgeous is this?!

:)

the resort

Oh, I loved this manhole cover. Rust and chipped paint - what more could you want?!

and my other love, fire hydrants!

A wallflower :)

my favourite kind of photo - bare branches against those grey skies. To be honest, everything looks better against a grey sky!
Which is your favourite "Irish" photo?
PS I'm a bit under the weather and by "a bit" I mean a lot. So I don't want to talk or do anything. I'm sleeping a lot and reading some. Oh, and I cooked two meals because when do I get the luxury of cooking?! I want to finish A Million Little Ways this month - the Kindle tells me I'm 58% through.

Peanut butter and Provitas

First of all, thank you for your delicious comments on yesterday's post. This blogging thing is odd - I thought it was a normal post and yet COMMENTS. Love it!

*****************************************

So when we arrived at the resort, I was armed with my shopping list planning to do what we always do: check in, drop the luggage and then head out for food.

Well, D came back to the car and said the reception ladies said the nearest food place is 45 minutes away.

I said, "that's nonsense. I'll google it" and sure enough, it was 45 kms and 50 mins away!

Hells Bells!

We then made the executive decision to eat supper at the restaurant and then head out the next morning for provisions. By provisions, I mean a boot (trunk) full of food.

And that's how we had apples, provitas and peanut butter for breakfast on our first day of holiday.

No-one starved but it was not exactly what I had in mind (that's an afternoon snack for me).

What's the weirdest breakfast you've ever had?

Also, I feel like I need to finish writing about last year, it being the 19th of Jan already!

What do I still need to post about?

The photography numbers
what else???
