I need you to help me choose a photo for a canvas

that is an A0 canvas - can you see how ginormous it is? (as I warn the kids regularly, it could kill them it's so big)
above that couch is where I want something ginormous and dramatic in black and white (I believe the decorators call these "statement pieces")
I bought an A0 canvas for that wall but I'm stumped - I don't know which photo to choose.

D and I agree that we should choose something "timeless" (not of our family).

It could be a photo I've taken or one from our photoshoots, if you can think of any that would do that space justice.

Or just weigh in and I'll go out and take the photo!!!

Maybe from our travels? NYC? Charlotte? Thailand? Ireland?

What do you think?

My other choices were vetoed but I also LOVE these

Going through the exercise of choosing 3 pics to put on canvas has been SUCH fun for me. I realised again just how much I LOVE this photoshoot. It makes me SUPER happy.

And it's a blessing to have SUCH a wide range of choice of great pics.

With your help, D and I decided on these three.

But these are the ones of us I also loved. Love actually :)

I think I'll have to do something interesting with them...

Anyway, moving on. I went through my stash of washi tape the other day and realised I have some duplicates (!) and some that are too similar to others so I'm selling these.

I don't know how to do nice curly brackets in Picasa so this will have to do. Please let me know which ones you want.

here's a pic without all the writing so you can see nicely :)
Otherwise, how are you all feeling on this beautiful Thursday?

I'm a little bit more up to date with work - amazing what you can do in two hours at home vs two hours in the office - but don't hold your breath as I'm going into 4 hours of meetings in 9 minutes' time :)

Are you enjoying your weather? Not? What's on your mind?

Cat asked, I answered & family pics

Okay, confession time (by the way, I have a whole post in mental drafts about my secret confessions which I will write one of these very fine days :)).

I actually don't mind memes at all. It's the tagging I hate. I either can't think of enough people or the people I really want to hear from don't do it or I end up feeling bad for leaving some friends out.

So, dear Cat, I will gladly answer your questions but I'm not tagging anyone.
  1. Name the one product in your kitchen you can not function without. My red kitchen scale - I love it!
  2. If you can change your career decision, what would you like to be (disregard training, money etc- this is a dream job) I'm in a measure of my dream job. My actual dream job would be to have workshops and talks inspiring and motivating people BUT someone else needs to do the marketing and getting the bums in seats. That, as far as I'm concerned, is for the birds. I just want to swan in, do my thing, and be off :) This is why I love talks so much, like the one I had on Friday. I arrived, didn't have to worry about how many pitched, chatted and got to know people, did my talk, chatted some more, answered questinos and I was out of there. Divine!
  3. What is your favorite toy (as in gadget, craft item, etc)? Hmmm. I'm not really into technology, except for the internet, without which I would perish. So favourite craft items - 2-inch circle punch, washi tape and my beloved binder rings :)
  4. What is your favorite book of all times? (or just choose one for now) Motherstyles. Hands down. I also love The Painted House - John Grisham.
  5.  If you could give your 16 year old self one bit of advice only, what would it be? Enjoy your thin thighs and tight abs :)
  6. Chocolate or vanilla cake? And specifically what type. Both, depends on the icing. I don't like cream.
  7. Meat, fish or chicken? Chicken
  8. On what would you spend R300 or 40US$ or the equivalent thereof as a spoil for yourself? Right now, I'm thinking of everything as 1/3 of one night's hotel stay (kind of how I used to think in IVF terms, like Rx is half an IVF or an egg retrieval :)) but normally I would just go to etsy and go order things that delight me. Like those rings.
  9. Which building in the whole wide world do you think is beautiful or have captured your attention? I love Rhodes University and my work's campus which is a similar style. I will post pics to show you soon-ish.
  10. If you could go on a dream holiday right now, no costs spared, to which one destination will you go and who will you take along? (no world tours allowed - one destination) I'd take D with me to Charlotte, NC and New York. For about 2 weeks.
  11. If you were a flower, which one will you be. And why? A yellow chrysanthemum because it is, for me, instant happiness!

And now the last of the pics. This time, the family.

(also, I started looking at how I redeem the Groupon and I am VERRRY impressed with how organised these people are. I will tell you all the details when I get my canvases).

So answer one, two or more of the questions I answered, especially if you thought, "what?!!!" I love those reactions because they make me laugh!

How was your Tuesday?

Surprisingly mine was not too bad. Work is still hectic but I spoke to a lovely man this afternoon who told me I'm very good at politics. Normally I wouldn't take that as a compliment but he meant that I was tactful and that is NOT my strength so I was rather chuffed.

Nail polish on little girls?

OOOH, you guys are doing such an awesome job of helping me choose pics to print on canvas.

I could quite easily print both number 3 and 4 - the door in number 4 is just GORGEOUS.

I love doors so much (and windows!). So when I got a pic of a gorgeous red door from Louisa in my inbox, I was delighted on three accounts - first, that she was thinking of me, second, that she then bothered to take a  pic to email me and third, that it was a pic of a door! Just bliss :)

On Saturday, Connor was eating and I saw he was messing with his food so I walked over to him.

Me Connor, what's going on here? (pointing to all the food)
Connor A big mess, Mummy!

Then yesterday, Kendra tells me she wants "black nail polish" on her nails. I bought a bottle called Black Forest and it's gorgeous. And yes, very black and gothic.

So I told her black is not suitable for little girls and we did the lightest purple I could find. D is not impressed with me painting her nails.

Do you paint your daughter(s) finger and toenails?

And now, please choose the pic you like the most of the babies.

Why do I keep doing this to myself?!

First let me tell you how I organise my Groupons.

Once the deal goes through and I get the email with the voucher attached, I print the PDF voucher.

I have a see-through (red) plastic-sleeved folder on my desk called "deadline-based" and I keep everything in there by expiry date. The ones that expire first are at the front.

Anyway, I bought another Brazilian (hair) last week so when I was filing it, I checked my Groupon folder.

And............... I have TWO due this month.

Oy.

Not only that, but they are both photo-based ones and you know how those stress me out.

1. I need to choose 3 pics to get blown up to A3 or A2 - I can't remember which...by THURSDAY. It's got to be from the Newtown photo shoot. So I've decided it's one of me and D, one of the kids, and one of all of us. So today you need to please weigh in and tell me which of these 4 you'd pick for the couples one. Tomorrow I'll put some of the kids and Tuesday the family ones. Even if you never comment, I'd love to know what you think and why.
2. I need to do two mini photobooks by 31 March. At the time of buying them I thought, "easy-peasy" but now I realise it's a big deal. I was thinking of finally doing C & K's first two years because I really only got into my memory-keeping groove on their second birthday.

Fun times.

In other news, the company that we use to hire DVDs is closing up shop due to all these other techno things I haven't even heard of (if you saw our old TV, you'd get it). Bottom line, we have til end March (what is it with end March?!) to use up all our credits, so D and I are getting movies like crazy.

And so I'm off to watch Rumour Has It. :)

Do you buy Groupons, etc?
What are you looking forward to this week?
And most important, which pic gets your vote?

Have a wonderful week!

PS I finished deleting the duds and selecting the best pics for my friend. I also did some collages of her kids and some others, and have just put them all on disc. I have a very slight understanding of what photographers must go through because I've packaged the disc, it's all ready to deliver to her tomorrow, and I can't wait to see what she thinks :)

PPS I can't put Notting Hill in my top 10 even. She was such a cow in that movie that it spoiled it for me :)
