Six on Saturday

Don't forget to enter the giveaway for the cutest beach tote ever :)

1. D arranged with his mother to come babysit so we could have a date afternoon by ourselves. On our date we bought 5 pieces of furniture, one of which was a wooden stove for the babies since they're currently in love with cooking. It is so very cute I can hardly stand it :) We also had some Ocean Basket (fish and prawns) which was delicious!

Two of the pieces were from my favourite shop, Studio Blue. I can't believe it's the first time I'm actually buying from there. Actually it's because they're so expensive! The salesman assured me that I would never ever have to replace those pieces. Hmmm.

2. My website is again giving me malware warnings. How does this happen anyway? It happened a few weeks ago and my webhost fixed it for me and now it's back again. What on earth? I don't have time for all this schlep.

3. My hair is a mess and I don't have time to go until Wednesday! When I'm done posting and trying to get rid of the malware thing I'll try to blow dry it - wish me luck.

4. Yesterday I spent the evening "crafting". You see, I got a WONDERFUL package of binder rings (thanks again, Nicole) and I am guarding every single one of them with my life. I use the word crafting very loosely but I'll show you my "creations" soon.

5. I have lists coming out my ears, but all in one cute little notebook I bought in Thailand. On our date we made some more lists for this coming week as our babies' party is on Saturday. Let me just add that I'm doing my best to not stress out but people who RSVP and then change their mind are going to make me crazy.

6. Then last but by no means least, I am a link-finding genius. I will blog tomorrow but I follow a couple of blogs that do these crafty linky party things. They are very dangerous as each link has 100 - 200 entries and one can click click click for hours at a time if you're not careful. A few weeks ago on one of my clicking sprees I found a link for microwave popcorn with real popcorn kernels.

We've just tried it and I don't think we'll ever buy those expensive packs again. Each bag of microwave popcorn costs about R8 (if not more) and we can get about 20 of those from a pack of "normal" popcorn kernels which cost about R13.

Do you want to know how?

1/4 cup of popcorn
0.5 teaspoon oil (this is optional but D likes a bit)
some seasoning (I used garlic and herb spice)

  • put in a brown paper bag (I used a Debonairs one :)), swirl it all around to mix, fold over twice and seal with about 2 - 3 strips of sticky tape.
  • Lay in microwave folded side up and turn on high.
  • The popcorn is ready when the pops slow down to more than 2 seconds between pops.
  • On my 1000 W LG microwave, this took 2 minutes 20 seconds :)
I think there are only about 10 non popped kernels - bonus!

Go get popping.

I can't link as I didn't bookmark; I just wrote down the recipe.

I have quite a photographic memory so if it's quick things, I just write down the stuff that's different for me. Otherwise with totally new tutorial-type stuff or recipes, I used to bookmark and now I pin.

Do you bookmark things you want to try, print them out or just write them down? Are you on Pinterest?

  1. I am so glad you posted the popcorn thing because I bought the normal popcorn today for the first time in years! Those packs are super expensive. I still haven't gone on Pinterest (and I got 3 invites already!). I am afraid of getting caught up in something that I KNOW will take too much of my time. For now I just bookmark stuff that I like and I print it as and when I need it. Finished my knitting yesterday. Will post it tomorrow. And we went to my SIL for dinner just now and she invited me to come and make costume jewellery with her. She is very good at what she does and I am so going to take her up on it. Was also invited by another blogger to come for a knitting visit...LOL
Tomorrow we are having a list-making meeting and for the first time ever Joshua is going to get his own list.
    Yay for new furniture!

  5. Thanks for posting the recipe for microwave popcorn. It's on of my favorite snacks, but I usually have to pull out the air popper. I'm not on Pinterest. I'll have to check it out sometime soon.

  7. I usually email them to myself and leave them in my inbox till they're done. I get a near rash if there are more than 20 things in my inbox. (I also leave all invites to things that have directions attached in there so we get to 20 pretty quickly)

  10. Never having to replace furniture? That's a pretty nice guarantee for someone with twin toddlers...I'd be wary of that! LOL

I love pinterest...it just makes me happy...all pretty or interesting things and no negativity...love it.
