Today I baked 3 dozen muffins and just finished helping D pop a bag of popcorn (popcorn kernels, not microwaved stuff).
I feel like Martha.............not!
Shame, my child was so looking forward to making "car biscuits" for Baker Baker day at school, mentioned it to his teacher who came and "chatted" to me at pick-up that they don't want biscuits because the recipients of those will feel hard done by.
FLIP!
I said, "waitaminute, we're not going to just put ONE biscuit in a pkt. I know people generally bring cupcakes, so we were thinking two big biscuits or 3 - 4 normal sized ones".
No, that was not good enough. She said cupcakes or muffins, that's it.
You had to see my poor boy's face.
Sometimes I hate the school. I'm the last person who would want any kid to feel left out so they'd actually LOVE my biscuits (it's Se7en's recipe - have been using for years and years and years).
Anyway, so we made vanilla, chocolate (both of those from a mix) and then I made some "special muffins" just for our family.
Have I ever shared those? They're made with oats and yoghurt. If not, I will post the recipe - it's too easy and so nice and moist. And a nice healthy snack!!!
You'll notice no instagrams, etc. I was too busy keeping all those little fingers out of the mixture!!! Eventually I said to Nanny S, please just go make them rest and I'll finish up.
Yes, so am tired.

On the bright side, my book will be TWO on Sunday and I've been working on updating the website, etc. to have a special for my list. Hey, thank you to the two of you who left amazon reviews - am amazingly chuffed.

Oh I love your holiday photographs, chilled with a capital C.... and that school makes me so grumpy - want to dash over and hug your adorable babes... what sort of school worries about kids feeling "hard done by" because you only bought cookies. Where have I been... I could go on, but I am mentally holding my breath!!! Anyway... I am sure the muffins will be fab and your kids won't feel like they let the universe down because they "only" bought cookies - have you ever!!! I love that you are cooking up a storm - you are inspiring me beyond belief... it is definitely time for me to post some new recipes!!!

Some kids might actually prefer biscuits! At N's school they specify cupcake sale day...most people just buy 6 or 12 and send that. We always get my mom to bake some abd N decorates. I recently found out that they put hers aside and the teachers get to buy them first!

We don't do Baker Baker or anything like that at our school.Which I am grateful for. One of the reasons I love our school - no fundraising, no parental involvement except the odd request for reams of paper or old magazines! And there's most certainly nothing wrong with biscuits! Fussy much??! I didn't even know you had written a book. One of the many talents of Marcia! Go you!

Deletethe school is extremely organised but it's "our way or the highway" (there was a set of gay parents who have since left - I think it's because their kids HAD to participate in "normal" family activities) mentality!
Since my little one is still short of three years old, we have only done one Bakers Day. They let you do whatever you want and it is so cool. Some parents even bring crafts. I had to do only one and I almost forgot about it....I turned up with 12 individual trifles because it was the only thing I could manage the night before.

DeleteWe have never been to a school that does Baker Day. I am not sure I understand the biscuit issue? Is it because a biscuit is "smaller" than a cupcake?

ReplyDeleteWe're not allowed to send in homemade anything any longer- because someone might have an allergy. Everything has to be store packaged with ingredients listed.
ReplyDeleteOur baker baker day at school is every friday. and the kids make the "goodies" at school. They are kept one side and allowed to take them when it is home time

ReplyDeleteWe don't have to take stuff for baker's man, our school does have bakers man every Friday where the kids make the cutsie stuff based on the theme for the week. They "bake" it during school and can eat it on the way home ;)
We have that every Friday; this is every Thursday to raise funds and a different kid in each class is the Baker that day and must supply a cupcake to "sell" to his/ her classmates

ReplyDeleteMy boy is also Bakerman this Monday. He has requested chocolate muffins. Our school is not fussy with what you send. Their idea behind it is to get you to bake with your child, and spend quality time together. And then of course your child is so proud that they "made" their own goodies for school! So I get to bake with my boy on Sunday!

ReplyDeleteHow rude. Seriously. It should be the kids' choice as to what they'd like to bring and make.
We don't have a Baker Baker day, but for the boys birthday this year we're bringing ice cream cone cupcakes to their preschool. We decided not to do a big family birthday party this year, as everyone has too much going on. We're going to have fun celebrating on their birthday with cake and presents and then next year, we'll invite the Kindergarten class.

ReplyDeleteUgh. My comment got lost. Child2's school does bakers day on a Friday. We don't send any baked goodies because the kids have all sorts of allergies. The school provides ingredients and the teachers bake WITH the kids. It's usually biscuits that the kids decorate themselves (no one is hard-done by in these parts!) and those rice crispy puff things or muffins or even cake. Kids do ALL the decorating and they bring it home to eat. I don't think I like your kids school anymore - they sound a bit snooty. And I love ALL the pictures in this post.
